More than 130.24 million people worldwide have been confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus. This was the result of a Reuters count based on official data on Saturday. More than 2.97 million people died in connection with the virus. The U.S. has the highest numbers, with more than 30.65 million cases of infection and more than 554,000 deaths.

Brazil is in second place with more than 12.9 million infections and more than 328,000 deaths, ahead of India, where about 12.4 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 164,000 have died.

In the United States, authorities reported 69,822 new Corona infections on Friday. In addition, 967 deaths related to Corona infection were recorded in the same 24-hour period, according to data from Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in Baltimore on Saturday morning (CET). The previous highs were recorded on Jan. 2, with 300,295 new infections, and on Jan. 12, with 4,476 deaths. So far, nearly 102 million people nationwide have received at least one vaccine dose, with nearly 58 million having full protection, according to figures released by the CDC health agency on Saturday.

In Russia, 9,021 people tested positive for the coronavirus within 24 hours. That brings the number of confirmed cases of infection to more than 4.57 million, the government’s Corona Working Group said. Another 384 people have died as a result of infection, it said. This brings to 100,017 the number of known deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic, according to government figures. However, the Rosstat statistics agency put the death toll since the pandemic began on Friday at more than 225,000.
